Antonia Capriotti is a Jefferson County emerging artist who is on the autism spectrum. Antonia’s colorful, happy works are growing in popularity.
After pre-school handicapped classes at T. A. Lowery, Antonia entered kindergarten and the autism program started in 1995. ‘Miss Christy’ Horning and her aide, ‘Miss Joni’ Barr, worked with Antonia and another autistic student, Alex Glorfield. Donna Leake continued with Antonia and other autistic students during her High School years. Enrolling in Gary Bergel’s Creativity, Color and Design course at Blue Ridge Community and Technical College gave Antonia “hands-on” experience in working with traditional art materials. Antonia has also engaged in over 20 years of music therapy and lessons. ‘Miss Miho’ Sato (therapist) and ‘Mr. Jesse’ Shultzaberger (drums) were very instrumental in her creative development.
