Mary Jo Bennett – Photography

Mary-Jo specializes in nature, travel, macro color and black and black photography. Her favorite subject matter is in her own backyard of West Virginia; however, she has traveled widely to capture scenes of uniqueness and beauty.  She is particularly drawn to photographing images of nature.

The artist looks for vibrant color, rhythm, pattern and unique textures in her subjects.  Her creative use of natural light and unique compositions provide a painterly quality to her images

Her training in photography began with courses at the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria, Virginia, followed by courses at several community colleges.  She continues to develop her skills as a photographer by attending workshops and lectures by some of the nation’s top professional photographers and through Web-based training courses.

In 2005, Mary-Jo was selected by a jury process to show and sell her work at Tamarack, West Virginia’s center for arts and crafts.  Mary-Jo is also a member of the Jefferson Arts Council and Berkeley County Arts in West Virginia. She is frequently recognized in regional and national art competitions.
